Motorcycle USA headed to Texas to take in the last big biker bash of the season, the Lone Star Rally in Galveston, Texas. After picking up a striking 2014 Victory Ness Cross Country in Austin we made the trek down to Galveston to take part in the 12th annual festivities. Organizers are predicting record numbers for this year’s event, and based on the crowds at the Strand, we believe them. Cruising Galveston’s downtown district is a popular event as a steady stream of motorcycles filled the street day and night, lighting up tires to the delight of the crowd. There was also a steady flow of entertainment on the Sangerfest stage as well, from the Miss Lone Star Rally contest to live music from bands like Hairball and Jared Blake. Industry personality Jay Allen emceed many of the events, including a salute to our military known as the S&S Circle of Honor. The Seawall was a hotbed for custom bike shows Saturday as the IMBBA hosted a ride-in bike show while American Bagger held a “Baggest Bagger” contest. Hater2, an all-steel, hand-built rat bagger by After Hours Bikes attracted tons of attention with its 30-inch front hoop, rusted patinas and copper accents. A sidecar-equipped Royal Enfield owned by Larry Garza out of Santa Fe, with its outrageous paint by Rick Fairless, also drew more than its share of onlookers on its way to a class win in the ride-in show. We had a blast cruising the Galveston beaches on Victory’s stylish bagger and can’t wait to go back again next year as the Lone Star Rally seems to get bigger and better every year ...
