2014-12-05: I didnt set the alarm and woke up when it was light. I packed and was on the road shortly after 8. The roads were still fairly quiet and I passed a number of groups of children going to school. One school advertised, as one of their offerings, Rifal shooting. I passed a group of ladies repairing the road surface. It is a bit different to see the ladies doing the manual labor that traditionally the men do. I stopped in a village for some snacks and a cold drink. Two packets of Marie biscuits and a 500ml Pepsi cost about the same as what the drink did in Mumbai! I took the wrong road out of the village and doubled back onto the coastal road, only to find that the bridge over the river was not completed. Consulting my map, the wrong road proved to be the correct road! Going through Sanjan, I stopped at a bicycle shop and enquired about a hooter for my bike. They had an enormous one with a deep sound - just perfect for Indian traffic. Unfortunately, it was the wrong color - however, on reflection, it might not have been too bad. The temperature was starting to rise and I wanted something more substantial to eat. I stopped in Sarigam at a restaurant and ordered noodles - even these were curried! I will soon be feeling like the guy in the poster and needing whatever it is they are advertising! When I left the restaurant, I found that the gear indicator on Nomasizwe was faulty - nothing serious, but more of an inconvenience. I continued to the coast and in Raman, I decided to look for a hotel. I tried about 10 hotels and all were full - or at least, not prepared to take on singles! I turned into a little alley - it did not look to great - and found the Pinakin House hotel. They had space and I was quoted a price; I said it was too expensive and offered a price lower. I said that I had paid an even lower price the previous night, so the receptionist then said OK to an even lower price than I offered. When, I paid, I paid with two equal denomination notes, both just lower than the agreed price. As he didnt have change, I got the room at an even lower price! This is the type of hotel I like! I went out for a walk as it was still light. I ended up on the beach after passing, what looked like a small shanty area. On the beach front were numerous bars or restaurants. At the entrance to the collection of shacks, was a woman selling fish - it looked like salted fish. Pedaling Pete in India. Kilometers traveled: 74.85; Total distance: 12380; Time on the road: 27.3 weeks.
