24 hours a day, seven days a week, the Safe Nest hotline helps victims of domestic violence. A typical day brings over 100 calls for assistance. Once again, the hotline rings. The crisis counselor answers, and on the other end of the line... ...a woman is requesting shelter to escape her abusive partner. Amy says she suffers from seizures after having been hit on the head on two separate occasions. Amy said she lost her job because her partner caused problems while she was at work. She has also been kept separated from her family. Amy told the counselor that her partner watches her every move and does not allow her to talk on the phone, exchange emails, or socialize with her friends on her own. Amy now wants to get away from her. The counselor listened and made arrangements for Amy to enter the shelter. Once at the shelter, Amy was able to contact her family for the first time in several years. They were happy to hear from her and wanted her to come home where she would be safe. Amy was referred to a local agency which provided assistance so she could return to her family in another state. She was also provided with referrals to agencies in her new location so she could continue counseling which she began while in the Safe Nest shelter. Amy called the shelter several weeks after leaving to let them know she was very happy to be back with her family. She is doing well and is continuing with the counseling. Because of you and your generosity, Safe Nest is able to help Amy and thousands more like her. Thank you for helping us to continue being on the other end of the line for those in need. nvbiggive.razoo/story/Safenestlasvegas
