2nd Sanat Residency - Anomalous The continued success of Sanat Initiative and completion of the second artist-in-residence programme would not have been possible without the invaluable contributions put forth by friends and family. First and foremost, I would like to thank my dear mother Zeenat and sister Mehr for their endless prayers and support, and my wife Aalia, whos enduring encouragement has seen me through the many trials and triumphs of the last 10 months, since establishing the Sanat Initiative. Along with family, Azam Khan, Nasir Jamal, Saira Nasir, Muzzumil Ruheel, Kaif Ghaznavi, Najam Quddusi, Arshad Sahibzada, Nezihe Hussain, Mustafa Wazir Ali, Shaikh Fawad and Manizhe Zahra have been instrumental with their unwavering pragmatism and technical knowledge. Because of their objectivity and constant friendship, their combined input and diverse contributions have served in the best interest of Sanat Initiative and its programmes. Successful completion of our second artist-in-residence programme was possible because of the energy and limitless dedication of Zeeshan Muhammad, an adjunct faculty of Indus Valley School of Art and Architecture. With numerous gallery and museum exhibitions to his credit and works being part of the permanent collection of British Museum, Fukuoka Asian. Art Museum and The Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York, Zeeshans guidance, experience and curatorial work served the visiting artists, and culminated in Anomalous, an exhibition of highly divergent and innovative works. Continued support from R.M. Naeem, Aasim Akhtar, Niilofur Farrukh, Naiza Khan, Adeela Suleman and Abdul Jabbar Gull along with their sustained enthusiasm ensure that Sanat Initiative will remain steadfast in contributing meaningfully to art in Pakistan. Opening his home and his heart to the young visiting artists, Tofiq Pasha Mooraj provided the residents with a unique opportunity to take a deserving and well-zewar need break, allowing them to recharge and refresh, ahead of further work and development of their individual projects. For this we and the artists are not just grateful, but also excited, and wish to welcome Tofiq to the larger family of Sanat Initiative. I would like to thank Fawzia Naqvi and Qm Nca for regularly covering Sanats exhibitions and activities in ArtNow, Saeed Kureshi and Mohsen Keiany for their supportive presence at all times, art critics, reporters, writers and all my friends from the press and media specially Nadeem Zuberi, Marjorie Hussain, Qasim Raza, Nadia Faisal, Peerzada Salman, Iqra Baig, Rana Asif, Tauqeer Muhajir, Komal Tauqeer, Sama Faruqi, Shanzay K. Subzwari and Minerwa Tahir for their contributions about Sanat Initiative and its programmes in various print and electronic media. I would like to also acknowledge the insights and valued analysis on Anomalous provided by Nafisa Rizvi, Zarmeené Shah and Aziz Sohail. Their grasp and understanding is not only vital in bridging the audience and the exhibition, but also in connecting the artists with the viewers. Furthermore, the creativity of Syed Adeel Akhter, Haris Jamshaid, Majyd Bayg and Jamal Ashiqain must be applauded, for their visual instincts allow for Sanat Initiative to document and thereby archived a small portion of the larger art-world of our nation. Last but not the least, a sincere gratitude to Wajahit Ali, Saud Baloch, Hussain Jamil, Zahid Mayo, Nyrah Mushtaq, Mamoona Riaz and Naveed Sidd who are the true stars of Anomalous.
