3-HR. STREET DEMONSTRATION ON THURSDAY 03-06-14 IN THE NEIGHBORHOOD -- ALONG COOLEY AVENUE, POTHOLED WEST 130TH STREET, CORNER OF WEST 130TH & LORAIN, ALONG LORAIN AVENUE, CORNER OF WEST 140TH & LORAIN, BACK ON LORAIN, CORNER OF LORAIN & WEST 134TH, DOWN WEST 134TH , AND BACK ON COOLEY AVENUE! As I demonstrated, I pointed my double-sided sign in the direction of the on-coming vehicles so they could see the sign. Today I carried five signs – one mounted on my red shopping cart and four others. Sometimes I hold two signs – pointing in the direction of the on-coming traffic to my left and right. While it was not very cold in the late afternoon and early evening (mid 30 deg. F) -- I was well dressed for the weather. The signs were seen by hundreds of vehicle occupants and a few pedestrians. A few car and truck drivers also honked in solidarity. At the peak rush hour – around 5:00 p.m. I counted 133 vehicles (a mix of cars, vans, small trucks, RTA buses, school buses, and tractor-trailers) in 5 minutes. Taking an average of say 50 vehicles in 5 minutes – 600 vehicles/hour – the signs were seen by occupants of say 1,800 vehicles in 3-hours. The number of passengers per vehicle vary. So the signs were seen at least by 1,800 drivers – assuming they were all awake and alert and not glued to their cell phones. And then there is the multiplier effect – people going home and talking to their family and friends about our VOTE NO TO TAX signs and asking questions. A very effective way of reaching the voters. Let’s hope they all vote NO and remember to show up on May 6, 2014 to vote. Demonstrations will continue on a regular basis all over Cleveland.
