3 years ago, while working as the manager of a youth music center - TopicsExpress

3 years ago, while working as the manager of a youth music center in Jerusalem, I heard that Blizzards CEO, Mike Morhaime is going to visit a gaming event in Israel and give a speech. The event was just 3 days after the release of the trailer of Diablo 3 and since working for Blizzard has been my life long unrealistic dream, I wanted to use the opportunity and give it a shot. I cancelled all my plans for the next two days, worked for 48 hours straight, re-scored this trailer and handed it over. While I am not sure if Mike has seen the video, a few days after posting the video on facebook I got my what was probably my first job offer to compose for a video game. Then I got a few others, and one thing led to another. Looking back, I think that was the moment when I became a composer for video games. This was the moment when my unrealistic dream of composing for video games has turned into a reality. Every time we get to the end of December, I remember this and think to myself “wow, I have been doing this for X years” (this time 3!). Just 3 years ago, this seemed as something divine and very far from reality and just in 3 years, although not yet achieving the Blizzard dream, I got to do this for a living, compose hours of music for dozens of amazing projects of all sizes, work on my own music/gaming project The Birdcage with some of my personal most appreciated and well known artists in the world and amazing people, I even ended up e-meeting and receiving feedback from Neal Acree, the original composer of the Diablo trailer (also a big inspiration and a great person) as well as endless other great people from Blizzard (also wanted to mention David Luong for being extremely awesome and supportive!) and the industry in general. Slowly, people I could only describe as “inspirations” turned into “friends” and “colleagues” and “everything I imagined” has turned into a.. well.. reality” I guess. While my list of unfulfilled dreams has only gotten longer, the one thing this time of year and this trailer will always remind me is that “unrealistic” is a stupid word that should be banned and that I am so lucky for learning this so early. I want to thank you all for being a part of everything, and since I am from Israel and facebook is my main way of communication with many of you guys, this seems like the right place to do so. People say that they want to work in the gaming industry because it is the best industry in the world and it really is, but over the past few years I have learned that it is not because we make games, but because of the people who are making the games. I have so many plans and goals for 2015, and I know that this will be a great year. Can’t wait to share it with all of you! HAPPY 2015!
