#4573 - Kerosene / oil can; This charming galvanized collectible still bears most of the original GSW label; about 8.5 tall plus cap & handle; about 7.4 diameter; It is made strong by horizontal ridges around its circumference. It has a wood handle with hints of red still remaining; screw-off caps on the top and spout. It shows tarnishing as would be expected for a piece this age. This piece was made in Canada by General Steel Wares, Limited. The earliest of the enterprises which are ancestors of todays General Steel Wares, Limited was a tinsmith shop opened in London, Ontario by John McClary in 1847. In October 1927, it and several other companies combined to become General Steel Wares of Canada (GSW). $28.50 (Pasadena)
