5/12/2014. ॐ श्रीपरमात्मने नमः । WHAT IS BHAJAN? The first condition to awake is to know that we are asleep. Unless you know that you are sleeping, there can be no effort on your part to get awakened. The second and the most important condition is you must want to awaken. Unless you know the necessity and benefits of awakened state, you may not incline to awake. How can you know that you are asleep? It will be easy to understand a sleepy state, if you know what awakened state is. Arjun in Gita asks same question to Lord Krishna about the awakened person. Krishna replies: प्रजहाति यदा कामान्सवाॅन्पाथॅ मनोगतान्।आत्मन्येवात्मना तुष्ट: स्थितप्रज्ञस्तदोच्यते।। (Gita-2/55). O Parth ! When a man relinquishes all his inner desires and finds satisfaction in self alone, then he is called an awakened man. Awakening must not be one time stand, a lightening happened and it went off. It must be permanent phenomenon. Meditation is like a lightening. You witness the consciousness. But soon it disappears. Your slumber was broken, but soon you went fast asleep. Spirituality demands permanent awakening. Flashing is not new to persons. That sort of flashings you get in the time when you get long cherished dream fulfilled, or you experience some extraordinary events taking place or you come under threat endangering your life. During those moments you can witness the flashes of awakenings, that is why you have life long memories of those events. But soon after, you lose that state. Samadhi is the result of permanent awakening. Samadhi is not 15-20 minutes phenomenon; it is result of your whole dedicated life. It requires your vigil not to slip away into objects of sense gratifications. Either you must hire somebody who can forcefully keep you conscious, awakened, or you must create an inbuilt mechanism, where in it continuously keeps you awakened. First of all you must have ardent desire for awakening. There can be many ways. Some of them you are employing without knowing them. You see that people are chanting Bhajans, or devotional songs continuously. Some people are continuously doing Naam Jap by way of Mala. These both are long tested ways for acquiring continuous awakening. But now both have left their shining. Now the fire is on the brink of extinguishing. Ashes have covered the fire. The spark they once had is nowhere visible now. Pundits have reduced Bhajan to just banging a pair of cymbals only, without any rational whatsoever behind it. Bhajan today in the most of the cases, is collective reciting with playing multiple musical instruments, making it hardly possible even for God to listen what the Bhakta says. It is so anguishing that you incline to run away to avoid the unbearable sound played there. Bhajan means devotional parlance with Parmatma, the Existence, to thank him for the favour He has made on Bhakta, and for making request in the form of a prayer to make him instrumental in whatever form Parmatma likes him to utilize, in the making the Shrusti more beautiful. The Bhajan is to be sung in the solitude, in total privacy with Parmatma, as Mira sang. It was never show in the public. I really fail to understand why people need to resort to mikes and loudspeakers to make their sound high decibel, when Parmatma is not an inch away from him and is not deaf. Intentionally an effort is being made by so called Pundits; to perpetuate on the mind of people that Bhajan is only instrument to reach to God. They misguide the masses by telling that in the Kalyuga, the Bhajan and Naam Jap are the only ways to reach to God. And this is being preached by the people who don’t even have an idea of what is difference between Ishvar and Parmatma. They have made people not only idle but also taken away their spark, whatever little they had, for imbibing the Realisation. Thus Bhajan has left its original meaning of devotional parlance with Parmatma. What is Naam Jap will be taken up tomorrow. And then we shall learn how to use them for realisation. . हरिः ॐ तत् सत् ।
