#5584 I am a schizophrenic. No, I am not the crazy masked murder muttering to an unseen figure off in a distance nor do I need to be chained to a bed or a wall. I am a girl who goes to school just like anyone of you. I just happen to experience auditory and visual hallucinations, have a warped sense of reality sometimes (NOT ALL THE TIME) and display difficulty in diction sometimes, just like most individuals who suffer from schizophrenia. But what appalls me is the lack of awareness from the students (and teachers from time to time) about such mental illnesses. I remember that one time a teacher had called a woman suffering from bi-polar disorder and schizophrenia as, bat-shit crazy. Bi-polar disorder and Schizophrenia are not the same thing as dementia or hysteria or lunacy. They merely mean that that individual has a warped sense of reality. I am not going to say how hard it is for me to get my work done because of this, or how life is a struggle and people need to pity me more. Not at all, I merely wish for more understanding about these diseases so that less ignorance about the disease can be evident. For the people that understand the disease, thank you. For the people who dont, its ok we can change that :)
