Deactivation Message: I apologize to all my friends and family - TopicsExpress

Deactivation Message: I apologize to all my friends and family at home and abroad for the short but abrupt deactivation of my fb. If you had trouble contacting me in the past few days, I am truly sorry. I’m only human; I get fed up with a myriad of things and people, like anyone I have my breaking point. However, I do realize that there are MANY people on this site Ive recently met (on my trip or otherwise) that are very far away from me, that I would NEVER want to lose contact with. It’s unfair to cut everyone off on a whim just because Ive recently been mistreated and under-appreciated by a few small town assholes. Since I returned home from Europe, on top of dealing with assholes, Ive been experiencing other personal strife and minor mishaps. Ive since gone back to work and school full time, doing a little better with all things considered but simply needed a quick break from social networking. Nonetheless, here are some updates: • One step closer to going to grad school and becoming an anthropologist: I am close to graduation at UC Merced. Finally! completing my BA in Anthropology, possibly by spring 2015. • Planning on taking the GRE’s and looking at different graduate schools to complete a Masters degree in Socio-cultural Anthropology, namely UC Berkeley, UCSB and San Francisco State (anywhere but the Valley). • I may go to Japan in the spring for another study abroad program (if I can handle another year in this town). • Currently part of community based research team and project with professor Robin Delugan and fellow UCM undergraduates. Our focus is compiling data and strategies for the newly formed youth council here in Merced by exploring the efficacy and sustainability of other established youth councils in different parts of the country and state. • Couple of weeks ago I met the film makers of “The Triple Divide”, a film about the dangers of hydraulic fracturing. I want to get involved with the local anti-fracking group called Mercedians Against Fracking if I can fit it into my schedule. If there are any other UCM students who are interested please message me, they need help creating a fb page. • Currently writing new music and attempting to keep some of the ongoing music projects Ive been involved in over the years moving again (Homebrew, Scarlet Begonias and my own original work). • Trying to keep my head above water in the seemingly volatile social, economic and political environment called the city of Merced. I am caring less and less about what people have to say here, since their opinions are often are so backward and shortsighted anyway... • Uhhh…..on a positive note: I am single and ready to mingle! All is well….the only thing I can do is continue plowing on and never look back :-) John Dovales Flores 2014
