7/25/2014 Olivia Update: Per Seth Hatfield phone call tonight, the good news is that Olivia was evaluated by all therapies this morning except OT because she was too agitated. She was up and dressed and in a wheelchair for ~45 minutes. As long as she was pushed in the chair she was satisfied. Today all evaluations happened in the morning but tomorrow and going forward therapies will be spread throughout the day. The doctors and therapists are reassuring Seth and Susan that this agitated phase will pass and she will progress. Olivia now has a full time/trained sitter until she moves past this stage. This is a blessing for Susan and Seth as they can sleep at night knowing that she is being watched and wont get hurt. Her trach is capped and the pain management doctor is working on a new mix of medicines to address her sleep/wake cycle. Seth and Susan continue to be thankful to be at Shepherds where everyone is knowledgeable about TBI and encouraging about Olivias prospective outcome. The (very) tough stuff: Olivia was more agitated last night than she has ever been. She did not sleep. She was in 4-point restraints but still managed to pull the liner of her trach out. (It was replaced). The doctor said she will not remember any of this and that it is more difficult on the family than the patient. Please pray for the rejuvenation of Seth and Susan as they are now able to get some rest so that they can be strong for Olivia. Also, please pray that Olivia moves quickly through this agitation stage and is able to participate in all her therapies. We continue to be blessed by your prayers and words of encouragement!
