9,000 fishermen to receive equipment By Lydia C. Pendon Friday, November 29, 2013 SOME 9,000 marginal fishermen in northern Iloilo towns are assured of fishing boats, marine engines and fish nets through donations from private individuals and the National Government. The “Adopt a Fisherman” project launched by the Iloilo Provincial Government had started to help the marginal fishermen who lost their fishing boats and gears to Typhoon Yolanda last November 8. The Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) regional office, together with the Visayan Sea Squadron, gave the first 50 units of motor engines to the fishermen. Another set of 450 marine engines donated by BFAR arrived this week in northern Iloilo to be distributed to the affected fishermen in the coastal municipalities of Carles, Estancia, Batad, Ajuy, Concepcion and San Dionisio. read more: sunstar.ph/iloilo/local-news/2013/11/29/9000-fishermen-receive-equipment-316296
