9 out of 10 teenagers in Botswana do not smoke-study Research conducted through the University of Botswana has revealed that nine out of ten teenagers in Botswana do not smoke. According to the studys primary findings, 10.8 per cent of the sampled population are current smokers while 61 per cent believe most of their peers smoke. Furthermore, 64 per cent believe that their peers are pressurized to try smoking cigarettes, thus bringing a flawed perception on prevalence or lack there of smoking amongst teens in Botswana. The study , conducted in February 2014, assessed students aged 12 to 18 years in Gaborone and Francistown in 22 primary, 26 Junior secondary and 27 senior secondary schools from randomly selected private and public schools. The results have given birth to the #MostTeens campaign, which celebrates the positive social choices of Botswanas teenagers.
