A 50 year old Female, from Lucknow city who presented in the emergency ward with bleeding from the mouth. After stabilizing the patient in the emergency ward a detailed history was obtained which revealed recurrent episodes of bleeding of the mouth. A highly sophisticated tertiary care center was required to treat her case. Hence, she was shifted to Mumbai at Kohinoor Hospital under Dr. Sanjay Helale, Head of ENTDepartment. The reason for her problem was a haemangioma (a growth consisting of increased no. of normal or abnormal blood vessels) in the voice box. The site of bleeding was located at a point at the junction of food pipe and larynx. A complicated location for surgery because both the breathing and swallowing mechanisms take place here. The failure of the surgery can lead to difficulty in breathing and swallowing. Using Laser Therapy treatment (Transoral interstitial laser therapy), Dr. Sanjay Helale, successfully got rid of the tumour. The surgery was done in a simplified manner and the patient was discharged home the same day with natural breathing and natural swallowing. Post operation, the patient has good voice and no problems in swallowing. It’s been 3-4 years the patient is asymptomatic.
