A BIGGER VIEW OF GOD I am a minister in accordance with God’s stewardship given to me to bring to completion for you the word of God. – Colossians 1:25 I recently sold some guitar equipment online to a church musician. Through our conversation, he learned that pastoral/ ministry work was my former occupation. He said it was a shame that it was no longer my career, adding that he would pray I become a full-time minister again. He was a nice guy and I appreciated his good intent. But I thought his words reflected a very limited and stereotypical view of what it means to do “God’s work.” Are priests and pastors more involved in God’s work than lay people? Are nuns holier than secretaries? Are bishops more Christian than CEOs? Is a missionary a better Catholic than a plumber? The answer is, it depends. It depends on what sort of plumber or pastor, bishop or CEO, secretary or nun you are. Every Christian must work passionately for God’s Kingdom — regardless of what their formal occupation is. In fact, working in the “secular” realm positions you strategically in the corners of the world that need God’s light. Kiddo Cosio Reflection: Have you narrowed your view of God and His Kingdom?
