A Confirmation Ruth 4:7 Now this was the custom in former times - TopicsExpress

A Confirmation Ruth 4:7 Now this was the custom in former times in Israel concerning redeeming and exchanging, to confirm anything: one man took off his sandal and gave it to the other, and this was a confirmation in Israel. When we make a reservation for a motel room or an airline ticket, we look for confirmation that the reservation has been accepted. In other words, we want reassurance that, when we arrive to claim the room or ticket, it will be waiting for us, and not given to someone else. A confirmation is a guarantee that we have what we asked for. In ancient Israel, taking off a sandal and giving it to another person signified that the terms of the agreement would be met. It was the equivalent of a signed contract today, or a handshake in former years. Confirmation is also an important concept in our relationship with God. Oftentimes when we make a request of God, and believe we have an answer, there may be an element of doubt. To resolve it, we may ask the Lord to give us some sign or word to make sure we have discerned, or judged, correctly. In a perfect world, where we have complete understanding of Gods will, such a request is not necessary. Even when we have a close walk with Him, though, there are times where there so much spiritual resistance and confusion that we want to be sure, especially if it involves something of great importance to us. Even Yeshua, when He was praying in the Garden the night before His crucifixion, needed the Fathers assurance that He should go through with what He knew was coming. Confirmation comes in different forms. Sometimes it will be just a stirring in our hearts, a sense of peace that comes from the Spirit that all is well. At other times it will be a passage of Scripture, or a word from a brother or sister in Christ. Events themselves may serve as confirmation. However it comes, it is a seal of divine approval. How do we know we have it? Peace. If we make a decision on a course of action, or about a relationship, or whatever it may be, and we feel a sense of inner calm and contentment with it, then the Spirit is in agreement with what our mind and heart tell us to do. On the other hand, if we are confused, anxious, or doubtful about the decision, it is not of God, and we need to go back to Him in prayer. We should not confuse our feelings before making a decision with the ones we have afterward. The prospect of what we must do may cause us to be fearful and anxious, but it is just at those times that we need guidance and confirmation. Once we decide, meaning once we are in agreement with Gods will for the situation, we should be at peace about it. Then, we have the confidence that when we “get to where were going,” what we expect will be there when we arrive. Prayer: Grant us the confidence, Daddy God, that we are obedient to You in the decisions we make. May our choices be Yours, and not those arising out of our own flesh. Thank you for giving us confirmation in our minds and hearts that we are doing what You would have us to do. In Yeshuas name. Amen! Brenda K.
