A GORSEINON family have denied causing unnecessary suffering to dogs and cats at their home. Glyndwr Richard Winsor Jones, aged 63, and his wife Margaret Elvira Jones, aged 57, both face seven charges under the Animal Welfare Act, while their 26-year-old son, Phillip Michael Jones, faces six charges. It is alleged that the Joneses — who live together at Llanerch Crescent in the town — committed a range of offences including not providing a suitable environment with enough space for the animals, not providing the right kind of food, and not proving treatment from a vet for ear infections and breathing problems. The parents face a further charge of breaching a disqualification order banning them from having custody of cats and dogs which had been imposed by Swansea Magistrates Court in November 2003. All three of the accused deny all the charges against them. The mother and son appeared at Swansea Magistrates Court today to plead not guilty to the counts — former miner Glyndwr Jones was unable to attend the brief hearing due to “chronic mobility problems”, and a not guilty plea was entered on his behalf. Matters were adjourned until February 10 next year when the three will stand trial before a District Judge sitting at Swansea Magistrates Court. Justice were told that there are also civil “Orders for Seized Animals” against the parents in relation to 26 seized cats and dogs — this matter will be dealt with on November 27.
