A Hole in the Boot Reckon times had been hard At least a few years or so ‘Cause in the bottom of his boot A Grand Canyon of a hole Didn’t slow him down too much Still rode more than he walked Given a half a chance He’d sit when he talked Sole of that old boot Had worn paper-thin Though he tried a patch Every now and then Now when it rained Or there was a snow Couldn’t abide wet feet Or a half-frozen toe He hid it pretty good But it was easy to see When he did his prayer And was down on a knee Never mind a little hole He had all he could need Love of the Big Trail Boss A faithful, solid steed Nights so peaceful Days on the trail Food, shelter and clothing Mercy and grace without fail He might limp a bit Foot got a little sore But not when he walked In the footsteps of the Lord
