A Lecture on Shiism - An Excerpt Allah says in Surah Al Baqarah verse 120, وَلَن تَرۡضَىٰ عَنكَ ٱلۡيَہُودُ وَلَا ٱلنَّصَـٰرَىٰ حَتَّىٰ تَتَّبِعَ مِلَّتَہُمۡ‌ۗ We recall what Allah has reminded us, when we wish to know our enemy, when we wish to safeguard our religion, when we want to be good and true practitioners of this religion, we have to know all the knowledge derived from what has been sent down by Allah in the noble Quran, so that we can be vigilant and prepare ourselves with knowledge as our first level of defence. Allah has said to us: وَلَن تَرْضَىٰ Meaning: And the Jews and the Christians will not content/pleased with you, O Muhammad, until you follow their religion, or their way of life. This is a signal – the Jews and the Christians, when they carry out their evil, when they, in the olden times, during the time when Islam was spreading, they entered the religion of Islam, not with the intention of becoming pious persons, but to destroy Islam from within. And so Allah has sent down His revelation to Prophet Muhammad SAW, “ وَلَن تَرۡضَىٰ عَنكَ ٱلۡيَہُودُ وَلَا ٱلنَّصَـٰرَىٰ حَتَّىٰ تَتَّبِعَ مِلَّتَہُمۡ‌ۗ” Meaning, Never will they be absolutely pleased with you, O Muhammad, NEVER.” What does Allah mean by “never”? They would carry out evil plans of great magnitude, until eventually one of these plans led to the creation of the religion of Shi’ism. Why do I say “religion” of Shi’ism? This is what I will elaborate upon in my explanation so that you can receive guidance, because we claim to hold on to the belief (aqidah) of the Ahlus Sunnah Wal Jamaah, but have we completed our studies in regards to our faith, in matters relating to the conviction of the Ahlus Sunnah Wal Jamaah? Our principles of Islam, our principles of faith, they attack us even there, but we do not know about Shahadatullahu was shahadaturrasul, that is, the testimonies of faith in Allah and the Messenger, aqa’idul iman. What will we defend against the onslaught of the enemy that infiltrates the aqidah? According to the old books, that are certainly our references, the Shi’ah are categorised into the Rafidhah, Zaidiyyah, Mufadhillah, ‘Alawiyah, Qarabitah, but in fact, in view of what has been happening currently, all of them have become Rafidhah, that is, the extremists, until changes have been made to their principles, their principles of Islam, their principles of faith. How can we say that they are a mazhab? This relates to belief (aqidah). You must know it correctly. It is necessary for you to know, because by the end of this lecture, you will know what their true intentions are. These are the seeds planted by a Jew, a Jewish ecclesiastic, who was most famous and influential known as Abdullah ibn Saba’. Therefore, because of this, Allah has signalled, not just because of Abdullah ibn Saba’, but has signalled to us in what was referred to in “ وَلَن تَرْضَىٰ عَنكَ الْيَهُودُ وَلَا النَّصَارَىٰ ” Who is Abdullah bin Saba’? He is the cause of the birth of the teachings of Shi’ism. He is the head of the Jewish ecclesiastic from Yemen. If we were to read Shi’ah books now, we ask the Shi’ah, he would not acknowledge, in fact he would refute this, saying, “There is no such person as Abdullah bin Saba’. This is fiction. This is an invention to say that the Shi’ah are not right.” This is their denial. Denial upon denial. And so I will expose the beliefs of the Shi’ah, and why they are not part of the teachings of Islam. We do not recognise them, even though they are among us, because they have an extraordinary weapon, takkiyyah, it is compulsory to lie in times of weakness. Who will know? And so here, we will explain the origin of the Shi’ah, that it originated with Abdullah bin Saba’. He was a ecclesiastic from Yemen, who converted to Islam with the name Abdullah bin Saba’. After entering Islam, He went from Yemen to Madinah in the last year of the Caliphate of Sayyidina Uthman bin Affan, the third Caliph of Islam, around the year 30 Hijrah, after the death of Rasulullah SAW. But this person did not receive any appreciatian from Caliph Uthman, when in fact he had expected at first that when he arrived in Madinah, he would be welcomed and celebrated with greatness, because he was a great Jewish ecclesiastic from Yemen, who had entered Islam together with some of his people. This is the source from which his evil was to emerge. Such people are known as Orientalists, people who enter Islam in order to destroy Islam. He was among the early ones to do so. Because he did not get the expected reception from Caliph Uthman and the Companions, he became very regretful because his goal, when he first converted to Islam, was that he would be warmly received, he would be given great honour, because he was a Jewish ecclesiastic, and therefore, supposedly, in his mind, he should be honoured, when in fact, that did not happen. And so he became incensed. But from the perspective of historians, that is the history of Islam, Abdullah bin Saba’ entered Islam only because he had the intention of destroying Islam, or to divide Islam from within. Clearly he has been successful in doing this. We will see how the evil was carried out. He planted this seed over a thousand years ago. This enemy that we are faced with, that is currently being discussed, is not a 300-year-old enemy, this enemy had begun over a thousand years ago, that is, from the time of Caliph Uthman, when the seed had been planted, and the result now is that the Shi’ah are now one of the followers of Dajjal and the enemy of the Mahdi. And so he is the source of contention until it led to the conspiracy for the murder of Sayyidina Uthman – he was the cause, as said by the historians, he played the role, he became the cause, he carried out evil, meaning from the perspective of Muslim historians, he precipitated the plot to murder Sayyidina Uthman. Sayyidina Ali, even though he magnify Sayyidina Ali, he in fact had such a foul plan towards Islam and its people. We must know about this. It has not disappeared in history. Like I said, the seed was planted a thousand years ago, but the problem is currently happening. What will happen to today’s ummah as a result of the actions of Abdullah bin Saba’? What will happen? He had such a foul plan for Islam and its people (ummah). He is the founder of the teachings of Shi’ism but the Shi’ah try to conceal the name of Abdullah bin Saba’ completely. He is the originator of the principles of Shi’ism, such as wisayah, wisayah means the will of Prophet Muhammad who, before his death, that the Caliph would be Sayyidina Ali. In this matter, we should know that Sayyidina Ali has absolutely nothing to do with the Shi’ah. The ahlilbayit, such as Imam Ja’far Sadiq, Muhammad Al-Baqir, Sayyidina Hasan, Sayyidina Hussein, all of them are not associated with the teachings of Shi’ism. But this is the basis of the Shi’ah, to convince, to garner sympathy, to the descendants of Rasulullah to convince us that they are striving for/championing the descendants of Rasulullah until many are influenced in this matter. He invented teachings that are similar to those of the Jews, such as Raja’ah. What is Raja’ah? We will discuss it in detail. He planted the idea of the divinity of Sayyidina Ali – many of his teachings are derived from original Jewish teachings. Because the Jews state that Uzair is the offspring of Allah. They state that, the Jews will not accept leadership from anyone other than the descendants of Prophet Daud. This is the teaching of the Jews. This is what has been absorbed in Shi’ism. According to Abdullah bin Saba, which he has taken from Jewish teachings, he said he read in the Book of Torah, that every Prophet has a wasi, that is, like a crown prince, and that was why he stated that the wasi of Rasulullah was Sayyidina Ali. Thus from this is derived the element of imamiyah or wilayah, that is the basis for the teachings of Shi’ism. We will explain this later. He invented a fictitious story that when people informed him that Sayyidina Ali had been murdered by Abdul Rahman bin Maljam, a hypocrite who had been hired, Abdullah bin Saba’ said that the one who had been murdered was not Sayyidina Ali, that the one who was killed was someone who looked exactly like Sayyidina Ali, he tried to draw similarities with the teachings of Christianity, when in fact Sayyidina Ali was actually murdered. He was murdered on his way to performing the fajr prayer. On the way, he was struck three times on his head, breaking his turban and his skull, until his brain came out, for one week he lay sick. This is the history of the murder Sayyidina Ali at dawn. This was also part of the plan of Abdullah bin Saba’. But for him, supposedly when people informed him about the murder, he said, “I do not believe it, even if you bring me 70 bags carrying the brains of Sayyidina Ali, I will not believe it, because how can Sayyidina Ali die, for he has elements of divinity.” We do not know about such things, and so we must learn about it, because this is an explanation about belief (aqidah), it is important, we fear that we may fall into disbelief because of such distorted and deviant teachings.
