A Letter to My Broken self, Dear broken ME, I am writing you this letter because although WE are one in the same, I feel I just don’t know YOU anymore. I used to stop and smell the roses, now YOU fear the thorns. I used to see serenity in a water fall, now YOU see drowning. I used to laugh too loud, and now YOU have a mechanical smile. Dear broken ME, this is not who WE are, and I will not let US be this way. Life has been hard on you, this I know. You have endured events that would have shattered others to little pieces. YOU are justified in your sorrow. But please, please do not let it break US! You know exactly what I am talking about; YOU miss ME!!! Bring back the girl who lit up when she ate her favorite food, or the girl who sang along with every song even if she didn’t know the words. The girl who didn’t have to speak words of love, because her eyes recited fairy tales. The girl who didn’t think everyone was evil and ill intentioned. The girl who didn’t second guess herself, who knew that her beauty came from her spirit and that spirits can’t get pimples, wrinkles or love handles! But, spirits CAN be so beaten that they reach a breaking point. But, YOU must remember that you made a promise to ME many years ago. You told me that no matter what happened to YOU, you would never let ME die. You said that it was your mission to preserve MY spirit, because I was the most beautiful part of US. You said that when I am gone, YOU become ugly. Yet here I am slipping away, slowly, subtlety, sadly, reluctantly…… Dear broken ME, this is my plea to you, I trust YOU and I know you mean well. I know that you did not choose to become this way, but that life has done this to YOU. My broken self, there is one thing YOU should always know; YOU are the stronger of the two of US. And without YOUR strength and resiliency, I would have died a long time ago. I believe in you and I thank you for protecting me all these years. I know you will never let me die, and that is because YOU are MY hero. Love Always, “ME”
