A Message About The Fires from Rabbi Aliza Berk Rabbi Nachman - TopicsExpress

A Message About The Fires from Rabbi Aliza Berk Rabbi Nachman of Breslov is famous for saying: The whole world is a narrow bridge, the key is not to be afraid. Rabbi Jonathan Omer-man writes, Rabbi Nachman is not saying that the terror below is not real -- he knows that it is, and that it is palpable -- but rather that there is security in holding firmly onto the handrail of faith. And yet, in the face of the unrelenting and unpredictable fires this last week in San Diego, it can be difficult to summon up the courage to face our fears. During these last few days, it was difficult not to check the San Diego County Emergency App continually throughout the day. We checked in with our loved ones and friends to make sure they were safe. How do we get through our fears? By reaching out our hands to those we love and trust and accompany each other through lifes challenges. By holding our loved ones close and reminding each other that a home can be rebuilt. I was in awe of the courage expressed by those who lost their homes in the fire. Several individuals who were interviewed spoke about their gratitude that their loved ones and their pets were safe. Ultimately, we each know in our heart what truly matters. Our thoughts and prayers are with the San Diegans who have been evacuated, those who tragically lost their homes, and everyone who is dealing with the aftermath of the wildfires. We also are so grateful for the brave first responders who have been relentless in their efforts to save our lives, our homes and our beautiful county. On this Shabbat, may we hold those who have been affected by the fires in our prayers and in our hearts. Shabbat Shalom, Rabbi Aliza Berk To learn more about the Jewish Healing Center at Jewish Family Service, visit us online at jfssd.org/jhc.
