A Minnesota mom, Angela Brown, has been charged with two gross misdemeanors after administering marijuana oil to her 15-year-old son to treat his severe brain trauma, the result of a baseball hitting him in the head. During a family vacation to Colorado, the Browns discovered a THC-oil (not CBD, interestingly) that cured their sons pain. Since Minnesota’s signed medical marijuana law will not go into effect until July of 2015 (a whole year), Angela Brown technically and knowingly broke state and federal law. But, like any logical parents, the Browns continued to obtain and administer the oil to their son; prior to the found medicine, was attempting to harm himself. Unfortunately, whether via a complaint from a concerned friend or a witness, authorities discovered what was going on and in June, sent a child protection employee to question Angela Brown. Now, Angela Brown now faces the charges (one for child endangerment), two $3,000 fines, and up two years in jail. What follows will likely be a historic court battle that will set a precedent for these types of cases, at least in Minnesota. Because Angela Brown will clearly not back down, and fervently maintains she acted how any parent in her shoes would.
