A PIECE OF COLISEUM HISTORY People collect all sorts of things....stamps, coins, dolls, art, etc. Without really realizing it, I noticed that I had accumulated over the years a large collection of bricks and stones. I had bricks from the old La Retama Library, the Breakers Hotel, Sundeen H.S., Angelos Pizza, Parkdale Plaza, the old 1914 Courthouse, Lichtensteins, Nueces Hotel, the original Bluff Balustrade, the old uptown Post Office, uptown Sears store, the 1952 City Hall, Exposition Hall, and countless others. So, when Memorial Coliseum began to come down, pieces of it were added to the collection. During May and June of 2010, the demolition company would set aside a small pile of bricks in the parking lot for the public to gather a piece of Coliseum history. Every time the media reported a new pile, the people would show up within minutes! I loaded my pickup more than once (see photo), and I photographed many others doing the same.
