A Place Called Hell The wicked shall be turned into hell, and - TopicsExpress

A Place Called Hell The wicked shall be turned into hell, and all the nations that forget God. Psalm 9:17 I thank God that the writers of old were not afraid to speak out on the subject of Hell. Here is one example by Thomas Watson. Why a hell? Because there must be a place for the execution of divine justice. Earthly monarchs have their prison for malefactors, should not God have His? Sinners are criminal persons, they have offended God, and it would not consist with God’s holiness and justice to have His laws infringed and not appoint penalties for the sins. And what about the dreadfulness of this place? If you could for one hour hear the groans and shrieks of the damned, it would confirm this truth that hell is a house of bondage. Besides the punishment of loss—which is the exclusion of the soul from the glorified sight of God—there will be punishment. In hell there will be a plurality of torments. Revelation predicts the lake of fire (other fire is but painted compared to this). The torments of hell abide for ever: “The smoke of their torment ascendeth up for ever and ever” (Revelation 14:11). Time cannot finish it, tears cannot quench it; the wicked live always in the fire of hell and are not consumed. After sinners have lain millions of years in hell, their punishment is as far from ending as it was at the beginning. We speak so little of Hell for fear that people will be offended. But my friend, wouldn’t you warn someone if you knew he or she was in grave danger? If someone’s house was burning, wouldn’t you do anything to free that person from potential harm? How much more then should we warn people about this place called Hell? 2 Kings 8; 1 Timothy 5; Daniel 12; Psalms 119:49-72
