A Saturday morning music story. The thirteen year old has been - TopicsExpress

A Saturday morning music story. The thirteen year old has been playing a lot of 90s alternative music lately, and daily it seems, I am time travelling. It occurred to me, somewhat surprisingly, that now, this music falls under the title, classics. This morning, the same mix was put on for our mid-morning brunch, quieter than usual per our compromise (loud is fine most other times), and we started talking music and decided to take the boy a layer back, a little deeper. The Pixies, Sonic Youth, Dinosaur Jr. Good-ness. I kind of go back and forth as a mother of a new teen, remembering just what it was like to be that age, and today, listening to this, wondering at just that...was I really ever a teenager? Of course I was, and how independent but not, how sure of myself but with so much more ahead than I could ever imagine. And as important as music is all of a sudden to my boy, it was the same for me, and still is, whether that means I havent grown up, or not. This was the version of this song that stole my young heart. And it moved me to dance today just like then. Time is a mystery unsolvable, but what a wonder, to be in it.
