A bad man w/ a candle: Quoting the Buddha, Dae Soen Sa Nim - TopicsExpress

A bad man w/ a candle: Quoting the Buddha, Dae Soen Sa Nim several times said that a teacher like him was like a bad man holding a candle: if you attach to the bad man and suffer over what he does or doesnt do for you enough, you do not fully benefit from following clearly the light in his hand, which just is your own dont-know liberation. If you attach to bad man and his any kind of actions, you miss thees light. Thees light, very important point! he would tell us, animatedly, insisting even through language barriers, that we just shut up and practice strongly and correctly the Utmost Vehicle Zen. Just do it! Dont lose the Teacher in the confusion of ego about things, the confusion of good and bad. Every day Im only trying to realize concretely his point that How can I help you? is the original practice, and is now actually the only function, the only choice when living in this strife-wracked world, that without that bodhisattva function, we all die. Its becoming apparent. Turn on the TV, look at all the products of good/bad thinking, and the constant chronicle of militarism and chaos, like we havent even left the 19th-century. But he pointed only to the Path. How important it is to meditate more and more gratefully that there was a Teacher who courageously points only to our True Nature. Practice is our only way. Rededicate, every day, to this Path. poem: Sipping this green tea on a day of sun emerging into spring...
