A childhood Halloween memory. In the 1960s we very rarely got store bought treats. We always got a variety of home made cookies for treats. One of the most popular treats were the ones we called snow balls. They were made with powdered chocolate and Rolled Oates, rolled into round little balls and coated with shredded coconut. One Halloween, for a costume I got an old pillow case, cut two eye holes in it and pulled it on over my head and tied it snugly around my neck with a piece of string. (no nose or mouth holes, just the eye holes) At the first house I was handed a snowball So I poked it through one of the eye holes but missed it on the way down to my mouth and it ended up caught in my neck by the string. I tried to maneuver it up to my mouth without success and ended up mashing it around my neck. By now, the string was tied in a granny knot and I couldnt get it untied so I just left it until I got home. At home my Dad had to use his pocket knife to cut the string. When I pulled the mask off my Dad burst out laughing and said. JEEESSSUS!
