A couple months ago, I went to the emergency room in the middle of the night with terrible nerve pain in my neck. Within a couple days I was fine thanks to some prescription painkillers and rest. I received a bill that starts off at $5,224.25 adjusted (I assume by my insurance company and not by their* conscious) down by $4,748.21 with a remaining bill of $476.04. Of all the four things that happened in the five hour visit that night (pre-screening, CT scan, visited by a doctor, written a prescription) here are things I dont remember happening: Picked up by a limo and driven to the hospital with a bottle of Cristal Carted immediately to a masseuse in a solid gold wheelchair Pre-pre-screening of a not-out-in-theaters movie with the A-list cast Dinner of Wagyu steak and white truffles served on a bed of $100 bills shaped like lettuce prepared by the Iron Chef Eric Clapton playing guitar in the hallway to soothe waiting patients Being sent home pain free *their does not refer to the wonderful doctor, nurses or techs the served me that night.
