A couple of views along Johor’s streets from last weekend: The Sin Seng Huat Hawker Centre is my regular lunch spot, as well as a place to have a local ‘thick’ morning coffee. They also do a brisk business with their fresh fruit stand, which I sketched last Saturday AM. Business was slow though, so when it came time to add some customers to the sketch, I had to ‘draw from my imagination’, which is definitely NOT one of my strengths! This drawing of the man is a bit ‘stiff’; but luckily, a young girl came by with her family, so she quickly became my model too. The second sketch, done on Sunday AM is a side doorway to several flats above a shophouse. Backs & sides of urban buildings are interesting to draw, as they’re usually ‘not for public viewing’, and can contain a variety of clutter, broken objects, cracks and mould. I like the detail of the window grillwork, the random wires and the open gate on this one. For a while, a woman looked out of the window, no doubt wondering what this crazy foreigner was doing down there!
