A fan sends us this link to this American Hero, he had the pleasure of caring for him at the VA Hospital before he passed. RIP Brother. Shortly after D-Day, Nelson was deployed to France. On Oct. 20, 1944, he was captured by German forces and spent several months as a prisoner of war in camps located in Poland and Germany. He lost 60 pounds during that time, because his only meal of the day was often just a bowl of soup or a potato -- but he never lot his optimism or will to escape. Although he says it was a rough journey, Nelson and two others escaped and spent three months hopping box cars by night. During the day, they hid as they traveled across Poland and Russia to the Black Sea. After he returned to Minnesota, Nelson returned to Augsburg as a member of the faculty and a coach. He spent four decades there as he raised his two sons, Bob and Bruce, with the love of his life, Dorathy. The two were married for 70 years before she died at the age of 95 in 2011 ~Bulldog1 myfoxtwincities/story/26387302/legendary-coach-american-hero-edor-nelson-dies-at-100
