A few people have asked Qs related to this from the write-up info document: Citing Sources. You must correctly cite your sources for ideas and you will be penalised if you do not. The three articles we provided you are sufficient to give you citations for all the major concepts you need. When you explain a concept, such as the endowment effect, cite the paper you read about this concept in. In more advanced assignments you would be expected to find and cite the original (‘seminal’) papers for each idea, but for this assignment we are trying to keep the amount of reading manageable for students at a second-year level. The following is an example of an idea explained without adequate citation that would invoke a penalty: People tend to remember things better when they have processed them with reference to themselves. Correctly citing your source means that it is clear where the idea originated. There is no magic formula for how to cite. Here are some examples of how to cite correctly. 1. People tend to remember things better when they have processed the things with reference to themselves (Cunningham et al., 2008). 2. People tend to remember things better when they have processed the things with reference to themselves. This is called the self-referential memory effect (Cunningham et al., 2008). 3. People tend to rate the taste of chocolate as more delicious when they have been deprived of food for an extended period of time, as shown in a study by Cocoa et al. (2002). Participants were prevented from eating for either 0 hours, 2 hours, or 12 hours and then given a bar of chocolate to eat. Ratings of the deliciousness of chocolate were higher after 12 hours of food deprivation compared with 0 or 2 hours, but there was no difference between the latter two conditions. Notice how in examples 2 and 3, above, there is not a citation at the end of every sentence. This is fine because the structure of the sentences and/or paragraph makes it clear where the information came from, thus giving credit to the source.
