A few thoughts on Congressman Steve Scalise. When I lived in - TopicsExpress

A few thoughts on Congressman Steve Scalise. When I lived in New Orleans, I listened to WWL, primarily b/c there was little else on, where Scalise was interviewed often. I cant say he ever struck me as much of anything, but I can tell you, he did not strike me as stupid or sloppy. To say in Louisiana, I spoke at a conference sponsored by an organization run by David Duke, where Duke was a featured speaker, but I did not know the organization was connected to Duke, strikes me as both stupid and sloppy. Its the same sort of thinking that calls George W. Bush stupid, or suggests that Ronald Reagans policies were the result of senility. I have no doubt that in his later years, Pres. Reagan developed senility, but I believe he was fully cognizant of all the moves his White House made. George W. Bush does not speak well extemporaneously, and has been known to mangle prepared remarks. This does not make him stupid, and I think Liberals/Progressives pay severe prices when they write off their opponents as stupid or senile. And in light of those two examples, the I didnt know line strikes me as giving Scalise a pass he does not warrant. If you are a pol in Louisiana and are unaware of where David may or may not be, you just arent paying attention, and Scalise does not strike me as someone who doesnt pay attention. I might also add, John Boehner is doing Scalise no favor when he says Scalise was guilty of poor judgement, since judgement implies Scalise had all the information he needed to make a decision; he just chose wrongly. So, which is it: Ignorance which results from stupid and sloppy attendance to important matters, or poor judgement? Because it honestly cant be both. And as far as Duke telling us who else hes spoken to, am I the only one who would not be surprised that some of those other pols might be Dems?
