A former president of Ghana (H.E. J. J. Rawlings) said and i quote What we need to do in this country is to establish a situation where even if it was the DEVIL [emphasis added] who should come and sit on top of us in Ghana, by virtue of certain procedures and certain practices, the DEVIL [emphasis added] cannot get away with doing whatever he wants. He will...have to do what the people expect of him cited from: https://youtube/watch?v=LJ9EWWdIYLI To say the least, as a Christian, i think that our former president at that time was overly Ambitious, and from a Christian point of view, i believe that he did not fully understand what he was saying. This is true for most of our politicians, even those who claim to be Christians. The problem i find with such a statement is that, man will be good or at best be positive in their thinking or attitude when put in the right condition or situation. I find this unacceptable! Our politicians pick and choose which religious jargons (recourse) they desire, to drive home their point without a holistic or proper understanding of its use. I cannot say, if those principles the former president talked about were instilled in the people or whether our society have moved away from those principles, but i dare say that they are not enough since they only help solve the problem symptomatically. Again, the SCripture says, When the righteous increase, the people rejoice, But when a wicked man rules, people groan (Pro 29:2 NAU). Citing this Scripture only emphasises that the statement even if it was the DEVIL [emphasis added] who should come and sit on top of us in Ghana, by virtue of certain procedures and certain practices, the DEVIL [emphasis added] cannot get away with doing whatever he wants is not accurate or truth at least on the account of Prov. 29:2. Bad leadership has been the major cause of Africas and for that matter Ghanas woes from many years. So i do not think that if we only have good systems, practices and principles, bad leadership cannot cause groan among the people. Again, bad leadership is only a recipe for disaster and not compliance to the will of the people even with good systems. What we have failed to realise is that our problems are not good principles, or laws, but our inability to enforce or insist on those laws and principles in our institutions and society at large. With this, i dare say that even angels will have a field day. It is therefore not about our laws or principles or systems, there is nothing wrong, at least with most of them. It is about our heart attitude, and only God is big enough to change that! As a people we must pursue God and desire to live for Him alone. When one comes to Him, all our problems are not solved but without him we have not began the process of solving them. One might argue that we are a country of about 60-61% Christians, and if my point is anything to go by, one might argue that Christianity has failed. That is a good point and an excellent observation but it is disappointing to note that i am not talking about Christianity as a religion but a relationship - A daily walk with God! A conscious effort to do the masters will because we claim we love Him. Christianity has more to offer a Nation, group of people or even an individual than we think. I therefore challenge my fellow Christians who truly believe in their calling to live worthy of that calling. Again, i encourage us (who have received the light) to be light to our generation. It is time for Christians to stand for our faith, defend it like our lives depend on it, live it like that is all we know to do and pray like our lives depend on that. We have been complacent and relaxed, but i challenge all to take the good new (It is still called good new today because it is relevant even with all the sophistications we have today) to the rest of the world, and for us, it means going to the unreached and least reached places in Ghana. Jesus Still Saves (JSS), sounds simple, not really advanced and sophisticated but it works........WILL YOU GO?
