A good internship opportunity for someone who wants to do local wildlife biology! From OK_birds: I am looking to hire an assistant for summer field work monitoring and protecting the interior least tern on the Canadian River, Oklahoma. Please forward this email to anyone you know who might be interested. I open to hiring undergrads, graduate students, or part-time temporary employees. The job details are below-- Begins mid-May and late-August (exact dates are negotiable). Based at the Oklahoma Biological Survey, Norman. Work Schedule: varies, must be able to work early mornings (5:00 a.m.) and occasionally be out of town overnight Hours per week: variable, but usually 15-30 Salary range: $9 - $13, depending upon experience Job Function: Assist Oklahoma Natural Areas Registry Program in field work, including: -endangered bird monitoring -vegetation sampling -habitat mapping Physical Requirements: - ability to lift over head and carry 50 lbs - ability to walk for several hours in extreme heat and wind on uneven terrain - ability to swim Required Skills: - ability to communicate effectively with a wide variety of people, including biologists, private landowners, and law enforcement - work in extreme weather conditions for long periods of time - ability to begin working before dawn Driver’s License required: yes Preferences: - biological science major with interest in conservation biology - experienced with GPS and GIS - bird identification experience (formal or informal) - field biology experience - experience with canoe or kayak Contact Priscilla Crawford if interested: Priscilla H.
