From OK_birds: I am looking to hire an assistant for summer field work monitoring and protecting the interior least tern on the Canadian River, Oklahoma. Work Schedule: varies, must be able to work early mornings (5:00 a.m.) and occasionally be out of town overnight Hours per week: variable, but usually 15-30 Salary range: $9 - $13, depending upon experience Job Function: Assist Oklahoma Natural Areas Registry Program in field work, including: -endangered bird monitoring -vegetation sampling -habitat mapping Physical Requirements: - ability to lift over head and carry 50 lbs - ability to walk for several hours in extreme heat and wind on uneven terrain - ability to swim Required Skills: - ability to communicate effectively with a wide variety of people, including biologists, private landowners, and law enforcement - work in extreme weather conditions for long periods of time - ability to begin working before dawn Driver’s License required: yes Preferences: - biological science major with interest in conservation biology - experienced with GPS and GIS - bird identification experience (formal or informal) - field biology experience - experience with canoe or kayak Contact Priscilla Crawford if interested: Priscilla H.
