A lesson to be learned.... This ad was on craigslist...... ----------------------- are you missing a parrot? (denver) A friend and I found a cockatoo in a tree in the Lakewood area. After a lot of effort we were able to catch him. If you are missing a parrot please email me. I am not writing details about this bird in this post because I dont want people posing as the owners to try and get a free bird. I will require photos and vet records to prove that you are the owner. ------------------------- Despite writing that photos and vet records were required (to prove ownership), someone tried to get a free bird. She sent a blurry photo and said the bird had yellow in her crest. (The found bird did not.) Nor could that someone identify the species of cockatoo that she claimed to have lost. The person posting the found bird ad asked for my advice. I told her to watch the reaction of the bird when she sees this person. In addition, a vet will still have records if the bird was ever seen. But this person could not provide any records. So fortunately, the founder had street smarts and has also been involved with birds for more than a decade. The REAL owner came forward shortly thereafter and the two were reunited. So, whats the lesson? Listen to your gut. If you find a bird, dont be shy about asking questions and demanding proof. If something seems off, it probably is. To a less experienced bird person, this bird could have gotten into the hands of the wrong people. (BTW this is not a photo of the actual bird, but the found bird was a goffins....)
