A message from Bishop Minerva G. Carcaño. Please take action on deportations by calling the White House today. Friends, Right now, Congress and our President are deciding the future of migrant children, and immigrant families and workers.1 That’s why I was arrested yesterday with over 100 faith leaders and immigrant advocates at the White House. We took a stand to demand moral and compassionate action to replace our country’s inhumane immigration system. Lets keep up the momentum – call the White House at (866) 961-4293 to voice your demands for justice and compassion. Here’s a sample script: “I’m from City, State, Congregation/Community and as a person of faith, I urge President Obama to protect unaccompanied children who have sought refuge in the U.S., end deportations, and expand relief for America’s immigrant families and workers.” Please share what is in your heart. As a parent, did the photographs of migrant children in detention centers break your heart? As a friend, do you share the pain of an undocumented loved one who lives in fear of deportation every day? As a person of faith, do you dream of a world where we care for all children and welcome the stranger? After months of prayers, phone calls, signing and delivering petitions, shutting down ICE offices, filing briefs, and educating our congregations and elected officials – the pressure on the President has broken through. I was arrested at the White House yesterday to hold President Obama to his promise to take executive action on immigration before the end of the summer, and support his call for humanitarian aid for migrant children.2,3 Keep up the moral pressure by sharing the photo story from our big action yesterday, and making a phone call to the White House right now at (866) 961-4293. This is a pivotal moment in the movement for migrant rights. With revolutionary hearts full of faith, we can and must demand the President reverse his record deportations, care for migrant children, and expand relief to the fullest extent possible under the law.
