These "First In Learning Aides" should be dependable, enthusiastic, patient, and positive about ensuring every child at Watkins receives an excellent education. Best, Beth Bacon Capitol Hill Cluster School PTA ---------------------------------- Watkins Elementary: First In Learning Aides, 2013-14 Our aides are valued partners in our classrooms! * 4 positions available (2 from 8:00am - 12:00pm & 2 from 11:00am -3:00pm) * 20 hours per week, most DCPS instructional days in the 2013-14 school year * $13 per hour compensation * Ideally begin working Monday, August 19 (for training and assisting teachers) * School begins Monday, August 26 * All candidates should be committed to work through one full school year Position Overview Four educational aide positions available at Watkins Elementary, a DC Public School serving students grades 1-5 utilizing the Responsive Classroom social curriculum. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Daily, aides will perform a variety of duties, including: * Work with students in grades 1–5, individually and in small groups, to reinforce daily lessons (including guided reading), motivate learning, and assist with classroom management * Implement BURST reading intervention one-on-one with students * Supervise all ages during lunchtime in the cafeteria and outdoor recess * Perform other similar duties as assigned Qualifications Candidates should have either: * An Associate’s Degree or * Have earned 48 college credit hours or * Have successfully passed the ParaPro Assessment administered by ETS (with a high school diploma).
