BUT to say ”Muslim countries” as though Pakistan and Turkey are the same, as though Indonesia and Saudiarabia are the same as somehow what is happening in the most extreme forms of these repressive countries, these autocratic countries is representative of what is happening in every other muslim country is frankly, and I use this word seriously… STUPID” Reza Aslan nails it again on prime time news and also shows the power that words and the way of framing them can have on an audience. Everyday the same notions that these other reporters put forth are being broadcast all over the world. The fact that the worst case scenario is somehow representative of all muslims. The fact that muslims is somehow a homogenous group whose thoughts and ideals are derived from strict sharia law. The fact that traditional practices like genital mutilation is somehow derived from islam. Of course the audience will be affected and their attitude towards ”the other” altered. It is dishonest, dehumanizing and it creates fear and in the end support for neo-fascist movements all over Europe.
