A national seminar on “Role of Youth in Environmental Awareness” was organized at the Government College University Faisalabad on July 04, 2013 under the direction of Vice Chancellor Dr. Zakir Hussain. The seminar was co-organized by Pakistan Youth Council, Lok Sanjh Foundation and the Department of Environmental Sciences, GC University, Faisalabad. Dr. Farhat Abbas, Chairman, Department of Environmental Sciences welcomed the guests from NGOs, participants representing youth from all districts of Punjab province, students and faculty members of Government College University Faisalabad. He emphasized the role of youth in environmental management and awareness. He pointed out various scenarios including deforestation, air pollution through industrial and traffic activities, water pollution through discharge of industrial waste into fresh flowing water bodies, and poor solid waste management, which cause environmental degradation. Dr Shahid Zia, Director Lok Sanjh Foundation briefed the participants about very important issues of chemical pollution and environmental degradation. He added that soil and water are very important components of our ecosystem and need to be used very wisely. Prof. Dr. Naureen Aziz Qureshi, Dean Science & Technology and the Acting Vice Chancellor, who was chief guest of the seminar, thanked the organizers of this mega event. She lauded the efforts of Lok Sanjh Foundation, Pakistan Youth Council, and the Department of Environmental Sciences by extending full cooperation of GC University, Faisalabad towards different projects of environmental importance.
