“A new commandment I give unto you, That ye love one another; as I have loved you, that ye also love one another. By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to another.” John 13:34-35 One day while thinking about how someone had hurt me, I was starting to feel the emotions of hurt and anger rise like a tide. I went from calm and peaceful to a growing storm inside. I wasn’t trying to meditate on the Word of God, I wanted to think about all the drama. Before I could go too deep in that way, I heard God’s voice, “Love her”. I didn’t want to love, I wanted to sit in self-pity. So I had a decision to make and it was hard at first. I chose to obey God. My flesh had lost. God helps us win the war over our flesh and His Spirit helps us keep it under control. No matter how we feel, God expects us to dominate over our emotions and not be dominated by them. The decision to do the right thing is easier when you meditate on the right things. No matter how you feel, choose to let God’s Word take preeminence over thoughts and feelings. Feelings feel strong, but they are not stronger than God. We all have a choice everyday to love, and to not only hear what He says but to actually do it.
