A positive mother- daughter relationship is so important for laying a good foundation for the rest of a young girls life. Moms are so important in building a good self esteem for a girl. I would put unconditional love as number one, second avoiding unrealistic expectation. I see too many times mothers pushing too much and setting the bar too high. Young girls have already a lot on their plates today, they dont need more unnecessary pressure from their moms.Listen, listen and then listen again, let your daughter talk to you without the fear of being criticized. If she does not want to talk, and those times always come, dont push. Spending time together without talking is all that is needed at times. Please teach them how to be comfortable in their own skin and talk about weight in a healthy way. What is important is who they are inside, beauty and body size dont matter at all. Confident women are beautiful at any age and in every size!!! Tell her how proud you are to be her mom, make her feel she is the best and most important thing in her life. Tell her to follow her dreams and to never let anyone take those dreams away from her. Tell her you will always be her best friend even if at times you may disagree on something. Give her wings so she will be able to fly. Most of all of course enjoy this wonderful lifes gift!
