A promising day for Malawi’s democracy: Today Malawians have - TopicsExpress

A promising day for Malawi’s democracy: Today Malawians have the opportunity to vote and express their choice of their future leaders, at the Presidential, Parliamentary and local council level. We encourage all registered voters to express their will by going to the polls and voting. It is important that the turnout at the voting stations be as high as possible and that the day is devoid of violence, so that the elections represent a clear reflection of the Malawian people’s will. As today marks 20 years after that historical first multi-party elections on the 17 of May 1994, today is a symbolic opportunity for the Malawian people to responsibly choose their leaders. The U.S. Mission in Malawi has twelve observation teams in various parts of the country observing as many polling stations as possible. Through our efforts we are helping the Malawian people in their determination and hope that the candidates that will be declared victorious fairly represent their choosing. Happy voting!
