A quick word on the runway incursion that happened in Barcelona - TopicsExpress

A quick word on the runway incursion that happened in Barcelona recently. (Heres the video if you havent seen it:) https://youtube/watch?v=1N5THRSp4hM Obviously I dont have the detailed information, just whats in the video and the description, and my perspective is as a low-time pilot. Without knowing what was said on the radio when, theres no way to know if the tower controller or the ground controller did anything wrong. Im sure there will be an investigation and they will listen to those voice tapes very very carefully. Its possible that someone missed a handoff in the tower or whatever, or that they did everything right and the airliner on the ground blew a hold clearance. The pilot of the UTair 767 (Russian Airline) thats landing is clearly very on the ball. They aborted the landing gently and carefully but still had plenty of clearance with the airplane on the ground. I suppose its remotely possible that they lined up with the wrong runway, but unlikely given the line of airplanes apparently landing on the same runway. If the Air Argentina pilots didnt explicitly blow their hold short clearance and it was the ground controllers fault, then I think they still should be relegated to lawn mowing duty for the rest of their careers. They crossed a runway where a 767 was clearly about to land. A 767 is not a small airplane, the weather is clear, it had all its lights on, and its less than 30 seconds from touchdown. Thats clearly the active runway, given the line of landing airplanes. Before taxiing out there, you should glance out the window and look to see if youre about to drive directly in front of someone. So I dont know that it wasnt a controller that made a mistake, but both pilots of the Argetina Airlines exhibited a very very dangerous lack of awareness which would have been fatal if it hadnt been for UTair pilots.
