A story from work this morning. Bit lengthy but my dealer friends - TopicsExpress

A story from work this morning. Bit lengthy but my dealer friends will relate. I was on a high limit Baccarat table last night. The shoe is an electronic one and it was the end of the shoe. It seems every shoe works differently at the end of the shoe so I asked for help from my floor supervisor on getting the cards out. Well, that seemed to communicate to the table that I didnt know how to deal Baccarat and didnt know what I was doing. They were still gracious with me but I sensed I lost a bit of respect as a dealer. Ive dealt this game for 4-5 years but usually on lower limits. I dealt the next 30 minutes professionally and made no errors. I came back the next push (it was just a one table string at the time) and again performed without flaw or error. I had several Chinese folks who were speaking Chinese during all these hands and discussing the board. At this point in the night I was not trying to earn any tips as I felt I needed to prove myself with the electronic shoe issue when I started the night. The gentleman in spot 9 seemed to have a girlfriend in spot 7 and another guy was in spot 8. The guy in spot 8 and his girlfriend were betting on the next hand and it was obvious he was scared to play. He was interacting with spot 8 speaking Chinese and with a pointing of the finger and a some words that sounded like a number and then saying dragon bonus the guy in spot 8 put $25 on the Player dragon bonus. At the last second, speaking Chinese, it sounded like he said, Screw it ... and he put down a Player bet of $250 and a $50 dragon bonus bet on player. I dealt the hand. The hand started out 2 for Player and 0 for Banker and finished with a Monkey for Player on the third card and an 8 on the draw for the Banker after two face cards ... thus, Banker won 8-2. Their were 5 bets on the table and all bet player. After the hand, I leaned into these three players in spot 9, 8 and 7, specifically talking to the guy in spot 9 and said, I see that all the time. The guy in spot 9 spoke perfect English for the first time all night and said, What did you see? I said, well, I know that you thought it was Player and didnt want to bet, you asked your friend in spot 8 to bet $25 on the Dragon Bonus for Player ... then at the last second you decided to bet $250 on the Player and an additional $50 on the Dragon Bonus. I said, I knew you told your friend to bet $25 on the Dragon Bonus for Player and then you put in your other bet ... you were only allowed to bet $50 total on the Dragon Bonus but you were very discreet in how you did it. No one would ever know you did that as you drew little attention to the action so I allowed the bet. Unfortunately, when I allow folks to do that my experience has been that that wager loses around 75% of the time. I then followed that up by saying, Sir, I wanted to say something to you about the bet so you wouldnt lose your money but I also thought that you had been kind to me as your dealer and no one else would know about the bet since you were discreet. It was rather fascinating to see these three players faces light up. They were like (speaking perfect English) ... Wow, you were spot on (my words) in what you saw. We all chuckled and had a good laugh. I followed up by just saying ... Ya, well, I dont know much Chinese but I study faces, expressions, non-verbals ... and Ive dealt this game for 4-5 years so I have an idea what is going on most of the time. I left the table after that push making $25 from those three players with a $5 tip as I left the table. The tips continued to flow the rest of the morning regardless of wins or losses. The players even asked for some advice which I refused to give as I said, Guys, I dont play the game ... I just deal it. Im here to serve you and facilitate the game. Ill let you guys gamble with your money. I sure did enjoy that Baccarat table. The table went on a 10 Player run and my three Chinese friends got all their losses back plus some. After the run they lost confidence in the shoe. I suggested they bet small until they felt comfortable and if they didnt then color up and leave. They left 5 hands later. Cant wait to see how much money I can make with these players next time I serve them. My heart will be to honor the casino and all her rules ... and build a relationship of trust that builds my own tips for the day.
