A teacher, Masimba Morapedi, who has begun his ten year jail sentence imposed by the Francistown magistrate court last week for the rape of an 11 year old girl, is to launch an appeal against both his conviction and sentence. Morapedi has engaged the services of of a law firm for the appeal and also to represent him in another case in which he is accused of raping a six year old girl, doing standard one, in Tsetsejwe in August. His lawyer told Gabz FM News that they intend to file appeal papers with the High Court in Francistown this week. Although he refused to share what their grounds of appeal were, he said they believe that the Magistrate overlooked a number of aspects during the trial and the sentencing of Morapedi as he conducted his own defence.
