A visit last week from Rachel Brown ‘12 and finding out what she has been up to since graduation was exciting! Rachel is a junior at Washington College majoring in Spanish and anthropology. She just returned from a semester in Ecuador. Rachel continues to write and has met many authors who visit Washington College including Tim O’Brien who authored “The Things They Carried”, a book read by current students here at UA. In fact, she got him to autograph a copy for her. She continues to enter her pieces in various writing contests. While a student at Ursuline Rachels writing portfolio was recognized with a $1,000 National Portfolio Silver Medal with Distinction Scholarship in the 2012 Scholastic Art and Writing Awards. Out of 1,500 submissions from high school seniors, Rachels writing portfolio was one of the distinguished few that was selected to receive top honors in the nation. In fact, out of 870 submissions of writing portfolios, 7 Writing Portfolios, including Rachels, earned National Portfolio Gold Medals. Congratulations on all your accomplishments Rachel!
