ABC Rural has taken an in-depth look into who is policing ESCAS, the system designed to govern the treatment of Australian animals exported live overseas. What they have found is not surprising: the majority of the work is not being done by official auditors or industry, but by Animals Australia. Despite this, industry continues to defend their actions with a straight face (goo.gl/ie7G6O) while animal advocates continue to call for the government to enforce their own rules (goo.gl/PKtEpj). Things need to change.
