ADVICE FROM A LEARNED BROTHER, TAKEN IN GOOD FAITH. I had a phone call from an unknown person two days ago, trying hard to convince me to rescind my decision not to take part in all intelligent debates geared towards the liberation of our youth from all forms of social canker that are fast eaten them up. At first, I declined going back to a vow I have made earlier, NOT to contribute to any public discourse with the ultimate goal to eradicating all forms of social vices most youth in my community are engaging in due to an ill treatment meted out to me by a friend. I am well aware that public discourse demands that, one must develop a large heart to accept constructive promptings to build a concensus to arrest all dangerous situations. My initial resolution as an uneducated teacher, after vitupratives comments have been made about a correction I made was to watch those most brilliant and well educated wise men and women in and outside our community to brainstorm and find a lasting solution to any canker wiping away the future prospects of our youth, BUT to stick to the reportage of mishaps that have befallen my schoolmates. I tried as hard as I could to ascertain the identity of this person but proved futile for the person was reluctant to divulge any information in relation to identity, but the deep voice clearly showed that it was a man. This fine gentleman engaged me in a lengthy conversation where he pin-pointed to me that, he admired my line of arguement and said he could deduced from the points raised that I meant no harm, therefore I should join hands with other people who accept constructive criticisms and harmless prompts in good faith. He crowned his submission with an encouraging statement in a question form my brother, do you know that the cultivation of the seeds of formal education is the drudgery of a few, but its fruits and benefits are for the whole community?. I pause for sometime and said, I do. I then asked the man, if people who initiate moves and call for actions see a simple correction as misinterpretation and misrepresentation and call for your blood, then semi lettered person like me should keep quiet and give PEACE a chance. He then told me to develop shock absorber and help build our community. Brother, I will reconsider my stance and come back.
