ALERT: Old Bar Road Fire There is a large bushfire currently burning along Old Bar road towards Old Bar. Residents should enact their bushfire survival plan if they have one. Those will well prepared properties should stay and defend. All others should move towards Old Bar at this time. An evacuation centre may be set up this evening at Old Bar to receive incoming residents. Fire crews are currently on the scene along the western end of Old Bar road between the roundabout and Pampoolah road. The fire is active and progressing, and the fire has crossed Kookaburra road and Wollards Road is currently under threat. The fire is believed to have originally started just east of the Purfleet service centre around 11am this morning. Crews have been at the scene since, and no reported loss of properties at present. Old Bar Road is closed and the next revision of road closures is at 18:00. The service centre at Taree South has crews in place protecting it. The Pacific Highway will remain closed in both directions until further information is available. Pacific Highway may be opened in both directions with just one lane open north and south of the roundabout, depending on fire control efforts.
