Text ;Luke 15;10;32 Definition; Repentance means a sudden and total change of mind or direction or purpose. It involves regret and strong hatred for sin/evil. The word repentance has its origin from the Greek word metaneo - which means a complete change of heart/mind and purpose as a result of after knowledge . It is used to show true repentance,a change of mind and purpose and life,to which forgiveness of sin is promised by God .In an evangelical or Christian sense repentance is actual hatred for sins. For even if I made you sorry with my letter, I do not regret it; though I did regret it. For I perceive that the same epistle made you sorry, though only for a while. 9 Now I rejoice, not that you were made sorry, but that your sorrow led to repentance. For you were made sorry in a godly manner, that you might suffer loss from us in nothing. 10 For godly sorrow produces repentance leading to salvation, not to be regretted; but the sorrow of the world produces death. 2 Corinthians 7;8-10 Friends, repentance is the foundation for a true salvation which guarantees one an inheritance in heaven.Repentance leads to complete conversion from the ream of darkness/sin to the glorious realm of heavenly light/righteousness. we are therefore commanded by God to truly respond to the gospel call and turn from the path of spiritual death to the glorious path of eternal life which awaits the overcoming Christian believers in heaven. Repentance involves the following; 1.True sense of ones sin and own guilt. 2.To take hold of or value Gods mercy in Christ. 3.An actual hatred for sin. 4.It involves turning around totally from sin to God. 5.It is a consistent effort to live holy and obey his commandments. TYPES OF REPENTANCE 1.True Repentance; Luke 15;10-32 (The prodigal son) 2.False Repentance Matthew 27;3-10 (Judas-who betrayed Jesus). CONDITIONS FOR TRUE REPENTANCE. 1.The person is conscious(aware) of his guilt of sin. Psalm 51;4,9 2.The person is aware of the pollution or deadly effects of sin. Prayer of Faith; Heavenly Father, I realise I have been a sinner; I committed these sins in ignorance, but now I have heard your word, I believe your word of deliverance and life. Today, I confess my sins and promise never to go back to them . Come into my heart (life) and save me unto eternity. Take absolute control of my life and glorify your name in me. I confess Jesus as my personal Lord and Saviour. Wash me with the Blood of Jesus, set me free and transfer my name from the book of death into the book of Life; with my little heart I believe in your righteousness, and with my mouth I confess that I am saved by the blood of my Lord Jesus.
